from the love of Jesus Christ my Lord
Nor any other thing can banish
The joy my Jesus has restored
Nor peril, sword or tribulation
Nor death, nor sorrow, pain, or shame
Nor worldly treasures and temptations
Its honors, glory, pomp, and fame
For my transgressions He was wounded
despised, afflicted, bruised, and torn
With cruel fury He was smitten
to take our sorrows and our griefs
How then can we be so ungrateful
and depart from Him who loved us so
And hide our face from Him who suffered
to give us life, to give us peace
